Room for anxious objects

01 April, 2017 – 31 March, 2018

The Czech sculptor Eva Kot´átková (born in Prague in 1982) deploys the exhibition space as a stage. Her stringently scenarized spaces constitute frames for surreal objects and collages. Fragmented bodies, prostheses, wire cages, and old-fashioned props that served dubious – because highly authoritarian – educational methods are presented tableau-style, narrating individual stories that become disturbing in the aggregate.

Central to the work of Eva Kot´átková is the human body as the bearer of physical and mental conditioning, and education as an expression of alienation and voicelessness, but also as a medium for potentially new forms of communication.
