In September 2021, a 24-hour musical tribute to Joseph Beuys will take place at K21 in Düsseldorf. Twenty-four musicians will pay tribute to Beuys as a pioneering artist who made music an important component of his artistic thinking and also significantly shaped music with his expanded concept of art.

The homage takes Beuys' longstanding interest in the work and thinking of the French composer Erik Satie as its starting point: 24 musicians from different disciplines, countries and age groups will perform Satie's "Vexations" on the grand piano, one after the other. Each performer plays for one hour and is followed by the next performer. The 24 performers include not only professional pianists, but also artists, curators and students. The event forms another multi-voiced highlight in the anniversary program "beuys 2021. 100 years of joseph beuys" and takes up Beuys' transformative, deeply human approach. It explores with him how today's music and today's art can contribute to social renewal.
